Advocating for the Arts in Michigan's 5th Congressional District

Today Kaylin, Haley and Joe, along with state team captain Sarah Triplett, took to Capital Hill to meet with staff from the office of Michigan's 5th District Congressman, Dan Kildee. This meeting was especially meaningful for Kaylin because the 5th is her home district.

We used the opportunity to extend our thanks to the Congressman for his continued support for funding to the NEA, and to stress the importance of funding arts education. We also advocated for the CREATE Act and asked that the Congressman consider cosponsoring this comprehensive arts legislation. We had a chance to discuss the importance of net neutrality for the creative economy as well.

We all had jitters about our first, face to face, advocating for our cause, but by the end of the meeting had gained the confidence to stay with the fight into the future.

Many thanks to Alison the staffer in Congressman Kildee's office who took the meeting.
